What to Do in the Event of an Eye Infection
All contact lens wearers know that they run a higher risk for developing eye infections just because they wear lenses. Lenses trap dirt and other bits of bacteria against the surface of the eye for an extended period which allows the eyes to become infected. If this happens, there are a number of very important things to do to ensure that the eye is allowed to heal.
The first important thing is to throw out the contact lenses that were most recently used. These are clearly contaminated and have the possibility of contributing to another eye infection if they are used again.
In the same manner, don’t use your contact lenses until your eye doctor says that it is ok. Trapping dirt or any remaining infection against the eye with a contact lens will just lead to the same problem occurring all over again.
The lens case should, as a minimum, be sterilized. They are not particularly expensive and so it may be safer to throw the lens case away with the lenses. Why take risks with your vision?
Eye make up should not be worn either. It has been shown that mascara and other types of eye make up can irritate the eye. Also, it may be a good idea to throw out the mascara that was most recently used, in the event that it was the source of the infection. Do not go back to wearing eye make up until your eye doctor says that it is safe.
